Dithering trades flat areas for texture so gradients and photos survive a small palette. Turn it off for logos, flags and anything with hard edges.

Your pixels appear here, at 16 × 16.

What survives at 16 by 16

A face that fills the frame: two eyes, a mouth, hair against background. Glasses, hats and strong color blocks read well. Fine detail, text and anything smaller than a sixteenth of the frame vanish. Turn dithering off for a flat, icon-like result and on for a photo-like one.

Before you buy the slot

The preview uses only the free palette by default. If the picture needs a paid color to look right, that is another 2,000 droplets on top of the 20,000.

Common questions

How big is a wplace profile picture?

16 by 16 pixels, 256 squares in the wplace palette. The slot costs 20,000 droplets to unlock, and you draw or upload the picture in the game.

Will my photo work at 16 by 16?

Faces survive if they fill the frame; a full-body photo turns into a smudge. The preview here crops to the center square first and shows exactly what 256 pixels can hold, so you know before you spend.

Which colors can a wplace avatar use?

The colors your account has: the 31 free ones plus any you have bought. Pick the free palette here to see the version every account can paint.

Can I use the same picture on Place Pixels?

Yes. One button sets it as your Place Pixels avatar, at the 350 Stardust the profile charges for a change; a new account starts with 2,000.
