What we keep
Your account identity comes from Google or Discord through Clerk. We store the pixels you place, your balances, your progression, and anything you submit to the gallery or report to moderators.
We also store the email address on your account, so we can write to you when something happens to your work. Alongside it we keep whether you have stopped those emails and whether the address has bounced, because both are the only way to know not to write again.
To investigate abuse, we create pseudonymous signals from a random browser identifier, verified sign-in identities, verified phone numbers, and part of your network address. We delete each signal 90 days after we last observe it. Clerk holds the phone number. We do not store the raw phone number or IP address for this purpose. Admins see only the type and timing of a match, not the identifier, phone number, or address.
What we email you
Events opening, your league week settling, and a summary of what changed on your map when you have not painted for a while. Every one of those carries a link that stops them in one click, with no sign-in, and you can set them per channel in Settings on your profile.
Receipts for anything you buy and decisions a moderator makes about your work are sent whatever else you turn off. They are a record of something that happened to your account.
What we measure
Product analytics are first party. There is no third-party tag on the site. We show no advertising in the game and there is no rewarded video.
If you arrived here from one of our ads, three things go back to Google, so we can tell which ads are worth paying for: your first placement, a completed purchase, and a subscription starting. Each one carries the click identifier Google put on the link you followed, the time, and what it was worth to us. None of them carries your name, your email address or anything you painted. These conversion reports are only sent if you arrived from an ad.
How we use emails for advertising
We may export your account email address from Clerk and share it with Google through Google Ads Customer Match to perform advertising services on our behalf. Google matches these addresses with Google accounts to show Place Pixels ads, exclude existing players from ads, and help measure advertising performance. This may include players who did not arrive from an ad.
Email addresses are hashed before they are sent to Google. Hashing converts an address into a code used for matching; it does not make the data anonymous. We obtain consent for this sharing where required by law or Google's policies.
You can request that we stop using your email address for Customer Match and remove it from our customer lists by emailing [email protected]. You can also manage personalized ads in Google My Ad Center. Learn more in Google's Privacy Policy.
What is public
Placed pixels, display names, avatars, levels, alliance membership and gallery submissions are public. Balances, Stardust, your email address and payment details are not.
Removing your account
Write to support and we will delete your account, your balances and your gallery submissions. Placed pixels stay on the map without your name attached, because removing them would erase other players' work built around them.
