Is r/place coming back in 2026?

Reddit has announced no r/place for 2026, and none ran in 2024 or 2025 either. Meanwhile a map of the real world is open, with no cooldown and nothing that whites out at the end.

  • 50 pixels before you make an account
  • No wait between one pixel and the next
  • Open every day, not one week a year

What Reddit has said

Nothing. Reddit has never published a schedule for r/place, and each edition arrived with days of warning at most: the 2022 canvas was announced on March 28 and opened on April 1. Silence now says nothing about next April.

The one hint there is

Snakeroom, the community that pulls apart Reddit's April Fools releases before they ship, said on March 22, 2026 that the r/place code is still in place and that Reddit is working on something involving it.

That is a datamining find, not a statement from Reddit. Nothing has opened since, and it is still not a date.

nothing to wait for

r/place is closed. Your street is not.

Place Pixels is one shared map of the real world, cut into 10-meter squares. Find the street you live on, pick a color, and paint it. Nothing resets and nothing whites out.

Work people finished on the map and submitted to the gallery, frozen as it was at the moment they sent it.

What is open instead

r/place ran three times in nine years and the last canvas closed in July 2023. This one has no season to wait for and no palette countdown at the end of it.

What a pixel is here

A square of ground 10 meters on a side, fixed to the place it covers. Zoom in anywhere on Earth and the grid appears over the street.

One square is 10 meters on a side, about the footprint of a small house. The outlined cell is one pixel. A city block takes a few hundred.

Start on your own street

  1. Find your street

Search a place or share your location, then zoom in to 15. The grid appears over the buildings, each square 10 meters across.

  2. Pick a color and paint

No cooldown between pixels. Stage as many as you like and commit them in one save, so a whole building goes down at once instead of over a week.

  3. Sign in only when you want to keep it

Your first 50 pixels go down before any of that, and they survive making an account. Google or Discord, no password.

Three editions in nine years, on no cadence anyone can extrapolate. April 1 in 2017 and again in 2022, then July 20 in 2023. Five years between the first two, fifteen months between the next two, and three years since.

Why 2024 and 2025 had none

Reddit gave no reason for 2024 or 2025. The 2023 edition ran in July rather than on April Fools, during the year Reddit's API pricing change closed thousands of third-party apps and drove the subreddit blackouts, and no canvas has opened since.

Common questions

Will there be an r/place in 2026?

Reddit has announced nothing, and there is no published schedule a date could be predicted from.

Is anything like r/place open right now?

Yes. Place Pixels is a shared map of the real world cut into 10-meter squares, open every day rather than for one week a year. It also runs a yearly canvas in the r/place format, a fixed square with a fixed palette, open the whole year. Your first 50 pixels go down before you make an account.

When was the last r/place?

July 20 to 25, 2023. It opened with eight colors on a 1,000 by 1,000 canvas and grew six times to 3,000 by 2,000 before Reddit cut the palette to white.

Was there an r/place in 2024 or 2025?

No. April 1 passed without a canvas in both years.

How long does r/place last?

Three days in 2017, four in 2022, and five in 2023. 2017 closed with its final image left up. 2022 and 2023 ended when Reddit reduced the palette until the canvas went white.

Does Reddit announce r/place in advance?

Barely. The 2022 canvas was announced on March 28 and opened on April 1, so four days is the most warning anyone has had.
