r/place map. Every final canvas and its atlas.
r/place ran 3 times, in 2017, 2022 and 2023. Each canvas is archived, and a community atlas labels what is on it. Here is where to see each one, with its size and palette.
- Open every day, not one week a year
- No account for your first 50 pixels
- Nothing resets and nothing whites out

r/place 2017
The first one. A million people, one thousand squares on a side, and a cooldown long enough that every pixel was a decision.
- When
- April 1 to 3, 2017
- Canvas
- 1,000 by 1,000pixels
- Palette
- 16 colors
Where to see it
- The /r/place Atlas. The original atlas. It shows the canvas as it stood when the experiment ended, with every labeled artwork outlined on it.
- The 2017 r/place Atlas. The same canvas in the Place Atlas Initiative's viewer, which also hosts the later years.
Reddit closed the canvas on April 3 and left the final image up.
r/place 2022
Ten times the players of 2017, on a canvas that doubled twice while they worked, ended by a whiteout nobody could outpaint.
- When
- April 1 to 5, 2022
- Canvas
- 1,000 by 1,000, expanded to 2,000 by 2,000pixels
- Palette
- 16 colors, expanded to 32
Where to see it
- The 2022 r/place Atlas. The canvas with a time slider through the days it was painted, and a searchable list of every labeled artwork.
Reddit cut the palette to white only, and the canvas was painted blank inside an hour.
r/place 2023
The one that broke the April pattern. It started in July, opened with eight colors, and grew six times before the whiteout.
- When
- July 20 to 25, 2023
- Canvas
- 1,000 by 1,000, expanded six times to 3,000 by 2,000pixels
- Palette
- 8 colors, expanded to 32
The exact colors of the 2023 palette are not published, so nothing is drawn for it rather than a guess at one.
Where to see it
- The 2023 r/place Atlas. The final canvas, a time slider back through earlier states, and a searchable list of every labeled artwork.
The palette dropped to grayscale for the last hours, then to white, and the canvas went blank.
What an atlas is
Each atlas is a community project, not Reddit's. Players outline a piece of art on the canvas, add its name, a description and the subreddit behind it, and the atlas lays those outlines over the image.
Entries come from players, so some are wrong or missing. The Place Atlas Initiative keeps an atlas for every year and links them all from its front page.
Why there is no 2024 or 2025 map
No canvas ran in 2024 or 2025, so there is no final image to see. The most recent canvas is 2023's.
Want the same game on the real world rather than a square? That is r/place on a world map. For every edition side by side, with cooldowns and endings, see the r/place history.
Common questions
Where can I see the final r/place canvas?
In the community atlas for each year, which draws the canvas and labels the art on it. The Place Atlas Initiative links the atlases for 2017, 2022 and 2023 from place-atlas.stefanocoding.me.
What is the r/place atlas?
A community project that maps what was drawn on r/place. Players outline a piece of art on the canvas and add its name, a description and the subreddit behind it, and the atlas lays those outlines over the image.
How big was the r/place canvas?
2017: 1,000 by 1,000. 2022: 1,000 by 1,000, expanded to 2,000 by 2,000. 2023: 1,000 by 1,000, expanded six times to 3,000 by 2,000.
Is there an r/place map for 2024 or 2025?
No. No canvas ran in 2024 and 2025, so there is no final image and no atlas for those years. The most recent canvas is 2023's.
Can I still paint on r/place?
No. Every r/place canvas is archived. Place Pixels is a shared map of the real world that is open every day, with a yearly canvas in the r/place format, and your first 50 pixels go down before you make an account.
One shared map of the real world, cut into 10-meter squares. Find the street you live on, pick a color, and paint it.
