An r/place clone, open right now.

Place Pixels runs a yearly canvas in the r/place format: 400 by 400 squares, the 32-color 2022 palette, one pixel per 30-second cooldown, and an end date. It opened blank on January 1 and it is painting now.

  • One fixed canvas, 400 by 400 squares
  • The 2022 palette, all 32 colors
  • One pixel every 30 seconds

What r/place was, kept item by item

Four rules made r/place what it was: one shared canvas anyone can paint over, a palette nobody can leave, one pixel and then a wait, and an ending. The yearly canvas keeps all four.

Where it strays from the original, on purpose

It runs the whole year instead of a long weekend, because the address people search for in August deserves a canvas rather than a closed sign. The cooldown is 30 seconds against the 5 to 20 minutes of 2017, because a year-long canvas is rationed by the calendar rather than by the queue. And it does not end in a whiteout: every r/place finished with Reddit cutting the palette until the canvas went blank, and here the finished canvas is kept at its own address while a blank one opens on New Year's Day.

The other canvas here is the planet

The yearly canvas is the faithful part. The rest of Place Pixels is the part r/place never had: one shared map of the real world, cut into 10-meter squares, where the thing you paint has an address and your first 50 pixels go down before you make an account.

  1. Find your street

Search a place or share your location, then zoom in to 15. The grid appears over the buildings, each square 10 meters across.

  2. Pick a color and paint

No cooldown between pixels. Stage as many as you like and commit them in one save, so a whole building goes down at once instead of over a week.

  3. Sign in only when you want to keep it

Your first 50 pixels go down before any of that, and they survive making an account. Google or Discord, no password.

Common questions

Is there an official r/place clone?

No. Reddit runs r/place itself and has licensed nothing, so every clone is independent. The closest running one is the yearly canvas at Place Pixels, which keeps the format: a fixed square, a fixed palette, a cooldown, and an end date.

How faithful is this clone to r/place?

The canvas is 400 by 400 squares. The palette is the 32 colors r/place ended 2022 with. One pixel per 30-second cooldown, and the canvas ends on a date.

Is it free?

Yes. Painting costs nothing, and nothing you can buy shortens the canvas cooldown.

Do I need a Reddit account?

No. Your first 6 pixels on the canvas go down before you sign in, and sign-in is Google or Discord, no password. On the world map it is 50 pixels before any account at all.

When does the canvas reset?

January 1. Each year opens a blank canvas on the same day, and the finished one stays viewable at its own address rather than being painted white.
