PLACE PIXELS
  • no cooldown on the map
  • no account to start
  • free to paint

r/place alternative: paint now, no account, no cooldown.

The map is the real world in 10-meter squares, so pick a street you know. The yearly canvas is the original 2022 format: 400 by 400, 32 colors, a cooldown, and an end date. Both are open right now.

  • 50 pixels before you make an account
  • 5,000 pixels in one save, no per-pixel wait
  • Nothing resets and nothing whites out

Is there an r/place 2026? Not so far.

Reddit has announced no r/place for 2026, and none ran in 2024 or 2025 either. What is known about the next one, and why there is no date to wait for.

What you get that r/place never had

The canvas is the planet, cut into squares 10 meters on a side, so what you paint has an address. Zoom in anywhere on Earth and the grid appears over the street. A blank rectangle asks what you want to draw. Your own street does not: you are the only person who knows what belongs on it.

One square is 10 meters on a side, about the footprint of a small house. The outlined cell is one pixel. A city block takes a few hundred.

No cooldown

There is no wait between pixels. You hold a wallet and spend from it, so a whole building goes down in one save instead of over a week.

Your work stays

r/place ended each time with Reddit cutting the palette until the canvas went white. Here nothing resets and nothing is deleted. A square untouched for 365 days starts to desaturate, reaching 20 percent of the way to gray after 3 years. It is visual only, landmarks never weather, and refreshing a whole piece is free.

Painting over someone costs more than painting

Fresh work by somebody else is expensive to erase and gets cheaper as it ages. Your own work is always cheap, so iterating on your own street never costs extra.

New accounts

A new account can overwrite at most 100 of other players' pixels a day until it is 48 hours old and has placed 500. Empty ground and your own work never count toward it.

A throwaway account is a poor weapon. An alliance fighting over contested ground still spends from many wallets.

Where the crowd is

Events run on a clock: the yearly canvas below, a weekly themed canvas, a spotlight city, and a daily prompt. A deadline puts everyone on the same ground at once, which an always-open map does not do by itself.

The 2026 canvas, in the original r/place format

The yearly canvas opened blank on January 1 and is painting now: one fixed square, the palette r/place ended 2022 with, one pixel per cooldown, and an end date.

The r/place format, open all year.

Nothing sold shortens the cooldown, and the finished canvas is kept rather than painted white. A blank one opens on January 1.

Start on your own street

  1. Find your street

Search a place or share your location, then zoom in to 15. The grid appears over the buildings, each square 10 meters across.

  2. Pick a color and paint

No cooldown between pixels. Stage as many as you like and commit them in one save, so a whole building goes down at once instead of over a week.

  3. Sign in only when you want to keep it

Your first 50 pixels go down before any of that, and they survive making an account. Google or Discord, no password.

Common questions

Will there be an r/place in 2026?

Reddit has announced no r/place for 2026, and none ran in 2024 or 2025 either. Reddit has never given more than four days of warning, so there is no date to wait for.

What is the closest thing to r/place right now?

Place Pixels. Its yearly canvas is a remake of the format: a fixed square, the 32-color 2022 palette, a 30-second cooldown, and an end date. The bigger twist is the same game on a map of the real world in 10-meter squares, open every day rather than for one week every few years.

Is there an official r/place clone?

No. Reddit runs r/place itself and has licensed nothing. The closest running one is the yearly canvas at Place Pixels, which keeps the format: a fixed square, a fixed palette, a cooldown, and an end date.

Is Place Pixels free?

Yes. Painting costs nothing. Money buys faster refills and cosmetics, and nothing you can buy reaches the standings, because leagues, city standings and alliance standings all count unboosted placement.

Do I need a Reddit account?

No. Your first 50 pixels go down before you sign in at all, and sign-in is Google or Discord, no password.
