Why Reddit's is closed
r/place runs only when Reddit opens it, which has happened three times in nine years: 2017, 2022, and 2023. Reddit has announced no r/place for 2026, and none ran in 2024 or 2025 either. When one does come, expect little warning; the 2022 canvas was announced four days before it opened.
When the canvas is not enough
The world map is the other half of the site, and it never closes: the planet in 10-meter squares, a wallet instead of a cooldown so a whole building goes down in one save, and your first 50 pixels before an account.
