- same mechanic
- open every day
- no whiteout
Same mechanic as r/place. Open every day.
One shared canvas, one square at a time, anyone can paint over anyone. The canvas is a map of the real world, it does not wait for Reddit to open it, and it has never ended in a whiteout.
- No cooldown between pixels
- Nothing ends in a whiteout
- Your pixel has an address
| Place Pixels | r/place | |
|---|---|---|
| The board | The real world, in ten-meter squares | One square canvas, up to 3,000 by 2,000 in its last edition |
| Cost of a pixel | A wallet of 200 that refills 1 every 20 seconds | A cooldown of several minutes, varying by edition |
| Pixels per save | Up to 5,000 pixels in one save | One, then wait |
| Colors | Any color you like on the map, 16 fixed colors on event canvases | 8 to 32, fixed per edition |
| When you can play | Every day | When Reddit opens it |
| When it ends | Never. The map is permanent and work weathers rather than resets | After a few days, with the palette cut to white |
Where the two designs part
How is painting rationed?
A wallet you spend from. The wait is for the batch, not for the square, so a building goes down in one save.
Time. One pixel, then several minutes of waiting, the same for everyone. That works because the canvas is small and the event is short.
On a permanent map a per-pixel cooldown would mean a year of waiting to paint one building.
- A new wallet holds
- 200pixels, capped at 300 until you level
- It refills
- 1 / 20severy 10 seconds with Pixel Plus
- One save can place
- 5,000pixels, so a whole building goes down at once
- Before you sign up
- 50pixels, and they survive making an account
A whiteout cannot happen here
Every r/place edition has ended with Reddit cutting the palette until the canvas went blank. Work here weathers instead. A square untouched for 365 days starts to desaturate, reaching 20 percent of the way to gray after 3 years. It is visual only, landmarks never weather, and refreshing a whole piece is free.
If you are waiting for the next r/place
Reddit has announced no r/place for 2026, and none ran in 2024 or 2025 either.
The yearly canvas here runs the format you are waiting for: a fixed square, a fixed palette, a start and an end. The map itself is open every day and does not wait for an announcement.
What r/place had that nothing permanent reproduces is ten million people on one square at once. That is what the events here have end times for.
Start on your own street
- Find your street
Search a place or share your location, then zoom in to 15. The grid appears over the buildings, each square 10 meters across.
- Pick a color and paint
No cooldown between pixels. Stage as many as you like and commit them in one save, so a whole building goes down at once instead of over a week.
- Sign in only when you want to keep it
Your first 50 pixels go down before any of that, and they survive making an account. Google or Discord, no password.
Where these numbers come from
Place Pixels figures are the values the game enforces today.
Everything else comes from each project's own site or wiki: wplace.live and its community guidelines for wplace, bplace.art and its in-app chroma store for Better Place, the pxls.space FAQ and wiki for pxls.space, pixelplace.io and the pixelplace wiki for pixelplace.io, ourworldofpixels.com and its community wikis for Our World of Pixels, Wikipedia and Reddit's own announcements for r/place.
Common questions
Can I play r/place right now?
No. r/place runs only when Reddit opens it, and the last edition closed on July 25, 2023. The yearly canvas at Place Pixels runs the same format and is open now.
Is Place Pixels the same as r/place?
The mechanic is the same: shared canvas, one square at a time, anyone can paint over anyone. The canvas is a map of the real world, it is open every day, and it does not end in a whiteout.
Does Place Pixels have a cooldown like r/place?
Not per pixel. You hold a wallet that starts at 200 and gains 1 every 20 seconds, and you can spend up to 5,000 in a single save. Waiting is for saving up, not for each square.
Does Place Pixels have a yearly canvas?
Yes, at /rplace, alongside the weekly canvas and the daily prompt. It is a fixed square with a fixed palette, which is the part of r/place a world map cannot reproduce.
One shared map of the real world, cut into 10-meter squares. Find the street you live on, pick a color, and paint it.
