Pixel Place, on real streets.
Place Pixels is the pixel place game where the canvas is a map of the real world. Every square is 10 meters of actual ground, anyone can paint any square, and it is open right now. Try a block here, then find your own street.
- 50 pixels before you make an account
- 5,000 pixels in one save, no per-pixel wait
- Nothing resets and nothing whites out
How Pixel Place works
The canvas is the planet, cut into squares 10 meters on a side. Zoom in anywhere on Earth and the grid appears over the street. Pick a color, click a square, and it is yours until somebody cares enough to paint over it. Most people start with the street they live on, because nobody else knows what belongs there.
What a pixel costs
There is no wait between pixels. You hold a wallet and spend from it, so a whole building goes down in one save instead of over a week.
- A new wallet holds
- 200pixels, capped at 300 until you level
- It refills
- 1 / 20severy 10 seconds with Pixel Plus
- One save can place
- 5,000pixels, so a whole building goes down at once
- Before you sign up
- 50pixels, and they survive making an account
What painting over someone costs
Fresh work by somebody else is expensive to erase and gets cheaper as it ages. Your own work is always cheap, so iterating on your own street never costs extra.
| What is already there | Pixels |
|---|---|
| Empty ground | 1 |
| Your own pixel, at any age | 1 |
| Someone else's, under 1 hour old | 3 |
| Someone else's, under a day old | 2 |
| Someone else's, older than a day | 1 |
| A landmark | 5 |
What happens to finished work
Nothing resets, and nothing is deleted. A square untouched for 365 days starts to desaturate, reaching 20 percent of the way to gray after 3 years. It is visual only, landmarks never weather, and refreshing a whole piece is free.
Where the crowd is
Events run on a clock: a yearly canvas in the r/place format, a weekly themed canvas, a spotlight city, and a daily prompt. A deadline puts everyone on the same ground at once, which an always-open map does not do by itself.
Start on your own street
- Find your street
Search a place or share your location, then zoom in to 15. The grid appears over the buildings, each square 10 meters across.
- Pick a color and paint
No cooldown between pixels. Stage as many as you like and commit them in one save, so a whole building goes down at once instead of over a week.
- Sign in only when you want to keep it
Your first 50 pixels go down before any of that, and they survive making an account. Google or Discord, no password.
Common questions
What is Pixel Place?
Pixel Place is a shared pixel canvas laid over a map of the real world. The planet is cut into 10-meter squares, anyone can paint any square, and what you paint stays there with an address until somebody paints over it.
Is Pixel Place free to play?
Yes. Painting costs nothing. Money buys faster wallet refills and cosmetics, and nothing you can buy reaches the standings, because leagues, city standings and alliance standings all count unboosted placement.
Do I need an account to play Pixel Place?
Not to start. Your first 50 pixels go down before you sign in, and they survive making an account. Sign-in is Google or Discord, no password.
Is there a cooldown?
No wait between pixels on the world map. You spend from a wallet that refills over time and can place up to 5,000 pixels in one save. The yearly canvas, which runs the r/place format, has a 30-second cooldown instead.
Is Pixel Place the same as r/place?
Same mechanic, different canvas. r/place was a blank rectangle open for a few days every few years. Place Pixels is a map of the real world, open every day, and it also runs a yearly canvas in the r/place format for anyone who wants the original shape.
