A pixel canvas the size of the planet.
A shared pixel canvas is an image thousands of people edit at once, one square at a time. This one is a map of the real world in 10-meter squares: zoom in anywhere on Earth, and the grid appears over the street.
- 50 pixels before you make an account
- 5,000 pixels in one save
- Nothing resets and nothing whites out
What a shared pixel canvas is
One image, many hands, live. Anyone can place a pixel and anyone can paint over one, so nothing on the canvas is owned and everything on it is defended. r/place proved the format in 2017 with a million people on one small square; since then the question has been what the canvas should be. Some are fixed rectangles, one is an infinite blank plane, and two put the canvas on a map of the real world.
The board changes what the painting means. A blank rectangle asks you what to draw. A map already knows where your school is, so the answer is usually the street you live on, and the finished piece has an address you can send to somebody.
What a pixel costs here
There is no cooldown between pixels. You hold a wallet, spend from it, and commit a whole batch in one save, so a building goes down at once instead of over a week.
- A new wallet holds
- 200pixels, capped at 300 until you level
- It refills
- 1 / 20severy 10 seconds with Pixel Plus
- One save can place
- 5,000pixels, so a whole building goes down at once
- Before you sign up
- 50pixels, and they survive making an account
Overwriting is allowed and priced: a stranger's fresh work costs three pixels to paint over, decaying back to one after a day. Your own pixels always cost one, so reworking your own piece never costs extra.
The other canvases
Six other shared canvases run or ran, from wplace's world map to pxls.space's numbered rectangles, and one of them is r/place itself, which is closed. They are compared row by row, with sources, on the comparison page.
Start on your own street
- Find your street
Search a place or share your location, then zoom in to 15. The grid appears over the buildings, each square 10 meters across.
- Pick a color and paint
No cooldown between pixels. Stage as many as you like and commit them in one save, so a whole building goes down at once instead of over a week.
- Sign in only when you want to keep it
Your first 50 pixels go down before any of that, and they survive making an account. Google or Discord, no password.
Common questions
What is a pixel canvas?
A shared image that many people edit one pixel at a time, live. Anyone can paint over anyone, so what survives is what somebody cares enough to maintain. r/place in 2017 made the format famous; several canvases now run year-round.
Is there a free pixel canvas with no account?
Yes. Place Pixels lets you stage 50 pixels before you make an account, and they survive signing in. Painting is free; a wallet that refills over time is the only limit.
Which pixel canvas has no cooldown?
Place Pixels has no wait between pixels: you spend from a wallet and commit up to 5,000 pixels in one save. Our World of Pixels also draws without a cooldown, on an infinite blank plane rather than a map.
Can pixels be placed on a real map?
Yes. The Place Pixels canvas is a map of the real world divided into 10-meter squares, so a pixel sits on an actual street and a link to it opens the map right there.
